The Orlando Mass Shooting and the Bible’s Counter attack

There’s no way to prove that homosexuality is more prevalent in our day than it ever was in all history, though this seems to be the thinking of some.  There is, however, little doubt in my mind that it is much more widely accepted than ever.  That’s the clincher.  That is what we can observe definitively.

By now the world at large knows what happened to over a hundred people in Orlando, Florida about a week ago, people who were either of homosexual orientation or more than moderately accepting of homosexuality.  This isn’t a political discourse.  Politics have no place on this site.

At least one person whom some call pastor and who no doubt considers himself a man of God declared it tragic that more people didn’t die in the Orlando mass shooting last weekend, drawing a comparison between homosexuality and pedophilia, and stating that the world is now a safer place.  I have to disagree in a strictly technical sense with his comparison and in a practical sense with his statement about the safety of this world, but that’s not my point either.

Although the Bible says this:

“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.”  (Leviticus 18:22)

And this:

“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”  (Romans 1:26-27)

It also says this:

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”  (Micah 6:8)

And this:

“Judge not, that ye be not judged.  For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”  (Matthew 7:1-2)

The Bible, utterly true and trustworthy, crystalizes the teaching without equivocation that homosexuality is a sin.  God’s declaration that it is abomination means that He hates it.  His commandment not to do it and His classification of it as vile affections makes it a sin like any other.

God’s commandment to refrain from judgment combined with His warning of the consequences of such make said judgment a sin like any other.  To rejoice in the slaughter of our fellow man because we disagree with their sexual preferences is as sinful as anything can be.  It is not just, not merciful, not humble.  While we do read that homosexuality is indeed a sin, while no truly Bible believing Christian has any right to disagree with the Bible’s teaching on the matter, the specific sins of an individual or group are not under our jurisdiction.  We declare to the world (in summary) as the Bible teaches:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)

And:

“For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  (Romans 6:23)

God will deal with all sins Himself alone. He doesn’t need our help, and He doesn’t accept our judgment.
